Absences
Upon
returning to school after an absence, children must bring a note
from their parent or guardian to the Attendance Office. An excused
absence will permit the student to make up their school work. This
note must include:
1.
Student's name
2. Date
of absence
3.
Reason for absence
4.
Signature of the parent or guardian
The
Attendance Office will give the student a PINK SLIP (return from
absence). This form needs to be signed by each teacher to clear the
absence. Teachers assign make-up work at this time. If the
Attendance Office does not have a valid excuse within 5 days of the
student's return, the absence is not cleared and work cannot be made
up.
In the case of a lengthy
absence, parents must contact the counselor to make arrangements for
make-up work.
Tardiness
Students must be in their assigned seats when the period begins or
they will be marked tardy. Tardiness can affect their citizenship
grade. Students with excessive tardiness will be referred to an
administrator.
OUSD Calling System
This
computerized service calls home if a student misses two or more
periods in one day. Parents select their PIN (Personal
Identification Number) at registration in order to interact with
this system. Parents can also call the service at 879-3210 and use
the PIN to check on their child's attendance. If you do not have a
PIN or need help, stop by the Attendance Office. Instructions are
also available in Cantonese, Vietnamese and Spanish.
Leaving School Early
If a
student needs to leave school early for a medical appointment, etc.,
the child must bring a note from their parent and take it to the
Attendance Office that same morning. This note must include:
1. The
time the student will leave
2. A
phone number where the parent can be contacted.
The
Attendance Office will call the parent to verify the early
departure. Students have been known to write notes for themselves or
their friends and then leave school for the day!
