Lockers are not made available to students at Bret Harte. Although some lockers are installed on campus, there are not enough for all students. Security, noise and disruption issues, also play a part in this decision which was made more than ten years ago.

To reduce the load that students must carry in their backpacks, each classroom has been issued a set of textbooks which remain in the classroom. For most classes, students are issued their own textbooks to take home for the duration of the year.

Textbooks which are found on campus are returned to the library. Students who have lost a book should first check with the library. A lost book must be replaced after three school days.

Parents are financially responsible for books which have been issued to their children. Financial arrangements and the issuing of replacement books are made with the library. Students will not receive a replacement book until payment is made.  School records will be held until payment is made.  Textbooks cost $30 to $70.
