The Bret Harte Community Academy was founded nine years ago by the Bret Harte Community Collaborative to provide needed after school programs for Bret Harte students.  Programs are offered in four disciplines:  Athletics, Arts, Science/Technology, and Leadership.  In addition, counseling services are available for individuals and groups.

The Bret Harte Community Collaborative is a collaborative partnership of over 32 community organizations, public agencies, city department, parents, students, neighborhood groups and other concerned individuals.  The Bret Harte Community Academy is funded through a variety of federal, state and city grants.  The Oakland Fund for Children and the Oakland Unified School District's 21st Community Learning Center grant are currently the primary funding sources. Families pay a nominal annual registration fee; scholarships are available.
